Famous for its cosmopolitan ambiance, it is located in the middle of the upper Engadine's lakescape at 1,856 meters above sea level. The bubbly "champagne atmosphere" is as legendary as the St. Moritz sun, which shines on an average of 322 days a year!
Positioned high in the magnificent Engadine Valley the frozen lake is a focal point and hosts many activities unique to St Moritz, such as horse-racing on ice, the annual polo tournament and ice-golf and cricket. The area is a haven for walkers and cross-country skiers, not forgetting those daring enough to try the infamous Cresta Run. In this winter wonderland skiing is just part of the appeal!
There are half a dozen distinct ski areas (Corviglia, Corvatsch, Furtschellas, Diavolezza, Lagalb and Alp Languard) totalling 350 km of varied terrain. The most convenient area is Corviglia which is perfect for intermediates or for warming up your legs before a bigger challenge. Corvatsch, across the Valley has some testing skiing and opportunities for off-piste for experts. Slightly further afield, but not to be missed are Diavolezza with a breathtaking glacier descent and the challenging runs of Lagalb.
Apres-Ski:
Off the slopes, the apres ski in St Moritz ranges from tea and strudel at Hanselmann’s, to the lively Schweizerhof Stubli and the exclusive King’s Club. St Moritz also boasts the best selection of designer shops in a small area this side of LA’s Rodeo Drive!
