The medieval lakeside town of Zell Am See is a popular destination for guests from all over Europe. In the heart of winter the lake freezes, enabling you to walk over to the traditional village of Thumersbach.
Most of the centre of Zell Am See is pedestrianised, creating an excellent environment for a family holiday and allowing you to easily work your way around the numerous après-ski bars, or visit the many shops in the resort.
Access to the skiing in Zell Am See is at three levels via the centrally located City Express, and the Schmitten and Sonnenalm cable cars half way up the Schmittenhöhe. With 130km of piste in the Europa Sport Region available on the lift pass, all levels of skier and boarder are well catered for in Zell Am See, and the neighbouring resort of Kaprun.
Beginners learn on the convenient nursery slopes at the ski school meeting point at the Sonnenalm lifts, which is reached by regular ski bus from the centre of Zell. The easiest blue runs are up the mountain, but with lift access back down for those who don’t fancy the extra challenge!
For intermediates, the Europa Sport Region presents an exciting and varied area, particularly for the red-skier. Access to the main Zeller gondola is very close to the resort centre, giving access to the circuit.
There are a range of challenging forest runs and mogulled pistes, as well as an abundance of off-piste that will keep the advanced skiers on their toes throughout their visit.
Apres-Ski:
Once you have come down to the valley again, the party goes on. The bars and pubs of Zell am See and Kaprun invite you for a chill-out in the evening. Whether you like it modern or rather traditional, the ‘Europa-Sportregion’ offers the right venues for any taste. There are more than 30 alternatives. In the bars and pubs it is easy to meet new people, but you can also have a cosy, private chat with friends and holiday acquaintances.
Try Crazy Daisy’s, Insider, Diele, B17, Evergreen and Guiseppe’s for plenty of stiff-drinking therapy after tackling the challenges the day laid out before you!
